First Noida-Greater Noida Metro train to arrive in December

Original Article – https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/noida/first-noida-gr-noida-metro-train-to-arrive-in-december/articleshow/61085765.cms

NOIDA: The first train of the 29.7km Noida-Greater Noida Aqua Line Metro corridor will arrive in early December. The officials of Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) said this will be a demo train and the rest of the four-coach trains for the track will start arriving every fortnight thereafter.

The trial train is likely to be despatched from China on October 25. CRRC Nanjing Corporation Limited, a Chinese state-owned rolling stock manufacturer, is supplying the trains to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) for the corridor. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was inked between the two companies in March this year.

The Metro is likely to roll by April 2018. According to NMRC officials, the Aqua Line will support 76 coaches. Each Metro coach will come at a cost of nearly Rs 4 crore. A total of 19 trains will run between Noida and Greater Noida at a speed of 35 km/hour, and at an initial frequency of every five minutes in peak hours and and ten minutes at other times. The frequency will be tweaked to address commuter traffic, officials said.

Initially, NMRC will operate 11 trains along the corridor. While the seating capacity of each train will be 186, the standing capacity will be 848 passengers. Hence, the total capacity of each train will be 1,034 passengers. There will also be special seats of dark Aqua colour for women, seniors and specially-abled persons. These will number 16 in each coach, with a total of 64 in each train.

The coaches are lightweight and made of stainless steel and aluminium. Each train will be equipped with a passenger information system, a passenger announcement system and an emergency announcement system from the operation control centre of the train. The trains will also have a radio for communication between drivers and an operation control centre.
Trains will also be fitted with a continuous automatic train control system.

According to officials, presently, civil work on the under-construction Metro track between the twin cities is nearly 97% complete. Nearly 29 km of viaduct out of the 29.7km of the corridor has already been put in place by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation. The DMRC has also started erecting Over Head Electrical (OHE) lines with about 1,100 electrical poles in place, out of the total 1,400. Nearly 30km of rail track of the total 60km has also been laid till now along the route. The structural work of all 21 stations along the corridor, including platforms, has been completed in a record time of 20 months. All stations along the corridor are likely to be ready by October 31. The finishing work of all Metro stations is presently under way.

Jewar Airport plan to be sent for Centre’s nod.

Jewar airport may come up in three years.

Good news for investors;

The land required for Jewar Airport on Yamuna Expressway near Noida can be acquired in six months after the Centre clears the project, CEO of Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) Arun Vir Singh said.

He said after the acquisition, the authority will be able to build the airport in three years. YEIDA, he said, has written to the civil aviation ministry seeking permission for the project.

In 2001, Rajnath Singh, then UP chief minister, first proposed an airport at Jewar. Mayawati, too, pursued the project after she became chief minister in 2007, but failed to make any headway because there was a distance clause which prevented setting up a new airport within 150km of IGIA. Jewar is about 100km from IGIA.

Arun Vir Singh said this clause has been dropped in the new aviation policy, making an airport at Jewar possible.

In fact, two airports at Amarawati and Vijayawada are now being developed just 80km of each other.

But what really tilted the scales in favour of Jewar airport is chief minister Yogi Aditya Nath’s push. Within days of taking over, he asked his officials to go ahead and draw up plans and take the Centre’s permission.

The Centre is likely to go along with the proposal as Gautam Budh Nagar MP Mahesh Sharma, who is the Union culture and tourism minister, had said a number of times that he favoured a new airport to come up at Jewar.

But the Akhilesh Yadav-led SP government had been dragging its feet. His government tried to find out some alternate site for the purpose. But that did not work out.

YEIDA boss Singh said around 5,000 hectare (12,500 acre) area has been notified for the airport. But the immediate requirement of land will be around 1,200 hectare (3,000 acre).

GMR, which operates the IGI airport, will get the first right of refusal to build the Jewar airport because of the terms accepted by the government while giving it the contract to modernise and expand IGIA. The airport will provide a huge impetus to development in Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad, Meerut, East Delhi and areas on the Yamuna Expressway till Aligarh, Mathura and Agra. Because of the Yamuna Expressway, the driving time to Mathura and Aligarh is about 75 minutes. CREDAI chairman and CMD of ATS Infrastructure Getamber Anand said the new airport will create huge job opportunity in the region and will drive all round development.

Chief minister Yogi Adityanath will push for the Jewar International Airport in Greater NOIDA region and an international airport in Agra. The state government will also remove “Samajwadi” from the “Poorvanchal Expressway” project of the previous Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party government.

Chief minister gave directions to senior officers of infrastructure and industry development department during the presentations made to him on late Thursday evening. Union minister of state for civil aviation (independent charge) Mahesh Sharma who had been favouring the Jewar International project had recently met the chief minister.

According to sources, the chief minister asked senior officers to take up with the Centre the issues concerning the construction of Jewar International Airport. Mayawati led BSP government had also been pushing for the Jewar International Airport. The SP government, however, had preferred an international airport in Agra and considered Saifai (SP chief’s native village) as one of the options.

“Chief minister has asked officers to push for construction of an international airport at Jewar. He has also asked the officers to explore the Agra option,” said a senior officer. About the Agra-Lucknow expressway, the chief minister asked the officers to get the work completed at the earliest. He said the work on Poorvanchal Expressway, too, should also be started at the earliest.

The chief minister said the super specialty hospital coming up at NOIDA should be developed on the lines of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). He said the Gautam Buddha University situated at Greater NOIDA should be developed as centre of excellence. He asked the officers to explore the option of re-opening the closed spinning mills in the state. He asked officers to submit a report on the issue in three weeks.

KPMG report on Yamuna Expressway

Delhi Metro, Yamuna-expressway among 6 infrastructure projects in KPMG world markets report

NEW DELHI: Delhi Metro, Yamuna-expressway and Tata Power’s Mundra ultra mega power project in Gujarat are among the six ventures that have figured in the list of world’s most innovative, impactful infrastructure projects prepared by international accounting firm KPMG.

The other three projects in the KPMG’s Infrastructure 100: World Markets report are Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT), Interceptor Sewage System and Narmada Canal Solar project.

These projects were evaluated on the basis of their scale, feasibility, complexity, innovation and impact on society, KPMG said.

“Each country has its own approach to developing and funding infrastructure, yet all share the universal challenge of creating the right conditions to attract investment so desperately needed,” James Stewart, KPMG’s Chairman of Global Infrastructure said.

Opened in 2012, the 165-kilometer, six-lane Yamuna Expressway is India’s longest motorway, connecting the capital New Delhi with Agra and creating a corridor for economic growth, the report said.

By dramatically reducing the travel time between these two historic cities, the $1.9 billion project will have a lasting impact on villagers, tourists, traders and working professionals and should expand trade.

The expressway also has symbolic value by showcasing the country’s ability to develop world-class infrastructure.

Ten years after its first line opened, the $2.3 billion Delhi Metro continues to expand, setting a shining example of how to carry out an effective public works programme.

Taking heed of the problems experienced by the Kolkata Metro – which was badly delayed and 12 times over budget – the development team utilised innovative procurement and strong project and contract management techniques, it said.

The $4.4 billion Mundra Ultra Mega Power Project is a major, coal-fired thermal power plant serving the states of Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Haryana and Punjab.

A 25-year concession has led what is a landmark PPP for the Indian energy sector, the report said.
